07/07/2007

July 7, 2007. . .7-7-7.

Around the world today people in every nation are thinking about the earth's environment, the challenges presented by climate change and moving toward more "green living."

Live Earth: The Concerts For A Climate in Crisis provides the music from around the world, including venues in New York City and Washington, DC.

You can check it out at: http://www.liveearth.msn.com/about/factsheet?GT1=10227.

Caring for our neighborhoods, our communities and our neighbors will naturally lead us to be concerned for the entire planet and for neighbors around the world.

The same concern extends to our children, our grandchildren and their children.

7-7-7. . .a time to think things through. . .and sing along!

Native American wisdom heard today during Live Earth on the Washington Mall by the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian: "Every decision should be made with the seventh generation in mind."

This just in.....

The stars performing for Live Earth are flying 222,623 miles to get there. They're going to have to buy a lot of carbon offsets!

But Al Gore III is doing his part to help global warming. Driving his Prius 100 m.p.h. to create a breeze to cool the planet!

Politics & Culture is a bitter, unhappy person who can think of nothing better to do than to tear other people down.

P&C also has claimed that he/she will NEVER do anything possibly harmful to the environment by demanding of others more than he/she would expect from himself.

Seriously... kudos to not being constructive. Go find something to be positive about!

Oh, and this from P&C's own blog profile:

"I am a Minister with a bit of interest in Politics & Culture. I have some strong opinions, but I try to stay open-minded. I tend to lean to the conservative side of the aisle."

Way to stay open minded rather than discuss an issue, you simply write it off.

Since you're a minister, I bet you're a good listener to.

While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and COLD and heat, and summer and WINTER, and day and night shall not cease.

Gen. 8:22

Sounds pretty normal to me.

chris, where do you go to church?

Anonymous said...

Why do you ask, just curious.

Anonymous said...

I just wondered. Maybe I'd visit when I am in your area.

I just wondered because of you are the same anonymous that thinks P&C is a bitter, unhappy, person then I doubt you would want to meet me!

I am in the Sugar Land area.

I am not that Anonymous. Are you a member of a church of Christ?

Anonymous said...

Yes, First Colony in Sugar Land.

Love this quote on Live Earth from Neil McCormick of The London Telegraph:

""If you wanna save the planet, jump up and down!" urged Madonna. Can global warming be stopped by an out-of-breath, middle-aged, super-rich narcissist in a leotard and high heels?"

The whole thing (Live Earth) was rather silly and pointless.

Larry James said...

politics and culture, to turn the attention of a huge part of the world toward a consideration of the environment cannot be just "silly," nor would any caring, thoughtful person consider it "pointless." I wonder how many new light bulbs will be changed out as a result of the event? Small things that signal a new commitment to doing something positive about our earth.

If find your cynicism most bewildering, frankly.

I wonder, do you believe there is not problem with the environment? What is your background in faith? You mentioned that you are a minister. What sort of minister are you?

Maybe he means that global warming is a hoax and extreme environmentalism is a religion with Al Gore as its High Priest.

too much evidence to not believe that global warming is real . . .

oh I forgot, God is on our side! it should be we're on God's side.

Belinda,

Climate change is real. But humans are not causing it. Were you one of the people worried about the next ice age back in the '70s?

Larry -- I guess I agree with some of the musicians who refused to participate in Live Earth:

Roger Daltery of The Who said, “The last thing the planet needs is a rock concert. I can’t believe it. Let’s burn even more fuel. We have problems with global warming, but the questions and the answers are so huge I don’t know what a rock concert’s ever going to do to help.”

Matt Helders, drummer of the British band, the Arctic Monkeys said, “When we’re using enough power for 10 houses just for (stage) lighting…It’d be a bit hypocritical.”

The lead singer of the rock band Muse, Matt Bellamy, referred to the musicians’ consumption to participate in the concerts as “private jets for climate change”.

I am a Christian minister. I believe that we should care for God's creation (my family and I recycle, try to reduce energy usage, etc.). But I don't believe all the hype and propaganda that the environmentalists want us to swallow.

I remember the ice age hysteria 30 years ago. And I believe in a few years we will laugh as we look back on the global warming hysteria.
