"to make a way out of no way. . ."

Remembering Dr. King. . .

"When our days become dreary with low hovering clouds of despair, and when our nights become darker than a thousand midnights, let us remember that there is a creative force in this universe, working to pull down the gigantic mountains of evil, a power that is able to make a way out of no way and transform dark yesterdays into bright tomorrows. Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice."
- Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Great quote. Thanks for posting it. I needed to hear that today.

That's what I call a "Whoa" quote. You can ponder that one awhile.

Dr. King's dream has been realized more than you know. Pat Buchanan said it best.

Blacks are 12.9% of the population but comprise about 40% of the federal work force whose average salary is $78,000 per year as compared to the general population annual salary of $42,000 per year.

No people on earth has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the 60's on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, medicaid, earned income tax credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream. Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks with affirmative action, contract asides and quotas--to advance black applicants over white applicants. Churches, foundations, civic groups, schools and individuals all over America have doanated their time and money to support soup kitchens, adult education, day care, retirment and nursing homes for blacks.

Barack talks about new 'ladders of opportunity' for blacks. Let him go to Altonna and Johnstown, and ask white kids in Catholic schools how many were visited lately by Ivy League recruiters handing out schlorships for 'deserving' white kids.

Is white America really responsible for the fact that crime and incarceration rated for African Americans are seven times those for white America? Is it really white Americas fault that illegitmacy in the African-American community has hit 70% and the black dropout rate from high school in some cities has reached 50%?

As far as racism, its ugliest manifestaations is in interacial crime, and especially interacial crimes of violence. While white criminals choose black victims 3% of the time, black criminals choose white victims 45% of the time.

Black on white rape are 100 times more common than the reverse. Black on white robberies are 139 times more common in the first 3 years of this decade than the reverse..

We have heard ad neuseam from the Rev Al about Trivan Brawly, the Duke rape case and Jena, all turned out to be hoaxes. But about the black assaults on whites that are real, we hear nothing.

We have heard it all before, about 40 years and 40 trillion tax dollars ago. This is a message everyone needs to hear.

Chris, are you sure that Pat has all his facts straight? I just could not find any source that says that blacks make up 40% of the federal workforce. Look at this.

Recorum, you are correct. The real figure is more like 18%.

The article is called "A Message for Whitey" and was written by Mr. Buchanan on March 21, 2008. The part that was sent to me occurs about half way down the entire article.

I didn't realize the comment about federal workers was not part of the article, but was added by someone else. It was clearly written by the blogger before he started reprinting the Buchanan article.

Thanks for calling this to my attention.

That would be "A Brief for Whitey."

Lots of what you base your opinions on, Chris are just a false as this example. The problem with most of what you post is the hatred back of it. Great Christian witness.

Our nation's investment in lower income communities and persons, especialy among African Americans, has paid rich dividends, including the growth and strengthening of a black middle class. Had the nation continued on the path of the 1960s, the results would have been even better. Chris, you clearly know little about the affects of long term, generational poverty compounded by lingering racism, personal and systemic.

You're right, Chris! After centuries of slavery and 100 years of Jim Crow, we should have just let them pull themselves up by their bootstraps! We didn't owe them anything!

To rcorum: Please read it again -his reference was to that segment of government workers that make at least $78K, not the total federal work force. His number sounds about right - I used to work for the FAA, and I can vouch for the fact that a hugely disproportionate number of those at the GS-14 level and above were black. I am white, was not a manager, and was told by a group of managers that I was "un-promotable" in the context of my being white.
