Hunger is real for working people. . .

Providing easy access to nutritious food products has been a core missional function of CitySquare from the earliest days of Central Dallas Food Pantry.

It is easy to lose sight of the importance of simply providing our neighbors the food they need in view of their low wages and earning power. Often we think of how food distribution can lead to other opportunities for those who come seeking our assistance with the most basic of human needs. But watching a video like this one reminds me that our work of making food available is an end in itself without further consideration.

My thanks to Michelle Kopel for sharing the video with me.

I could eat for a week on less than $10.00 and
be perfectly happy . First I would buy a bag of potatoes, dried beans and some coleslaw for contrast .
Of course children would probably not like it. One can stir-fry potatoes with a teaspoon of oil.

I think you are missing the true scope of hunger in our nation.
could you eat the dried beans and potatoes for the rest of your life?
We as a nation are a wastefull society-prefectly good food is trashed while others go hungry.
the working poor struggle every day just to supply BASIC needs for their family.
I recently saw the documentary A PLACE AT THE TABLE - it gives great insight to the hunger isssue in America

the true beauty of this video is watching the family swallow their pride and reach out for help. then volunteer - yes they receive food for doing so , but are at the same time building a sense of community the kids are going to receive so much more than food by doing so.

Try that for a month and then report back to us on: (1) how you feel and (2) whether you are still "perfectly heppy" with that diet.

I look forward to your report.
