Helpful resource on immigration

Looking for solid material on immigration and faith?

Click on the title line above to be directed to the Interfaith Worker Justice website and the study guide, "For You Were Once a Stranger: Immigration in the U. S. Through the Lens of Faith."

Would be a great resource for a study group.

"You shall not wrong a stranger or oppress him, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt." Exodus22:21

  1. Interfaith Worker Justice is a left wing religious organization, or perhaps I should say socialist. The name itself tells you that it isn't exactly conservative.

Laura Boston, who works for the Houston IWJ Center, says that requiring employees to speak English is "an annoyance tatic" and "just part of abuse you sometimes get from some employers."

Now why would an employer go out of his way to annoy his employees?
Certainly it would not be good for morale and productivity.

So let's call it what it is, a socialist, anti-American organization. Why am I not surprised that you refer to it?

Incidentally, why is the religious right bad and the religious left good?

  2. chris, read Larry's post today based on the story in Sunday's New York Times to see what some employers of immigrants actually do. Larry provides a serious resource for conversation and better understanding and you resort to the same old tired response.

Religious right vs religious left? Don't see anything related to that in this post. Typically though, the religious right promotes a sort of civic religion while the so called left draws out a message of challenge directly from the biblical text with special attention to the Torah, the prophets and Jesus. Fairly good company, don't you think?

  3. Chris, last time I checked, Jesus was a socialist... "Go sell everything you have and give it to the poor."

"All the believers were together and had everything in common" (Acts 2)

Also, Jesus is anti-American. I'm pretty sure he wants us to be citizens of the kingdom, not America.

  4. Chris - It is very difficult to recall you responding to substance. You immediately resort to classification (liberal), name calling (socialist)and argument ad hominem (about the man, not the idea). What exactly is so objectionable about caring for "the least of these" among us? And if you find that objectionable, why do you read this site? Just to get worked up?

  5. Larry,

Thanks for providing a link to this resource. As one who works with Brazilian (and to a lesser extent, Hispanic) immigrants in ministry I will be very interested to see what this pdf will have to say.
