SPENT

Urban Ministries of Durham offers a real challenge in the form of an on-line game they call "SPENT."

Here's how they describe the challenge game:

We’re going to challenge the way you think about poverty and homelessness.Work hard. Do the right thing. Homelessness is something that will never happen to me. Sometimes, all it takes is one life-changing experience to land you on the streets: a job loss, death of a loved one, divorce, natural disaster, or serious illness. Next thing you know, a chain of events sends things spiraling out of control…

How would you cope? Where would you go? What would you do? Figure something out, right?

Let me know how you do!

  1. Absolutely realistic. Pressures to provide your children with common experiences like field trips and ice cream, which are so enriching to their every day lives, that people with middle incomes have no idea how painful such decisions can be for lower income people. When faced with grinding poverty on a daily basis these escapes are the only ways to relieve some anxiety. What a great tool to communicate such a commplex issue.

  2. Wow what a sharp way to convey such a complex issue. I posted it to my Facebook page in hopes of sharing it with a wider audience.

It should be titled "A month in the Life of Grinding poverty" but then again we kinda don't want to experience unpleasant conditions that our neighbors face daily.
    Thanks for the find Larry.
