What's a Church to Do?

What’s a church to do?

Declining memberships. . .

Aging members who’ve never questioned the church as system/institution. . .

Stories like this cover of Newsweek two weeks ago. . .

What’s a church to do?

Maybe what we need is a movement, a movement back to our roots, back  to the   foundational “value propositions” of our faith. . .ancient, but powerful; Hebrew and Christian. . .

A movement grounded in scripture, tradition, reason and experience. . .

A movement that could be catalytic, that could spark a real life change for the poorest, the weakest and the most vulnerable among us. . .

A movement that could, that can happen right here. . .

And a movement that is so full of truth and power and hard work that once begun with hearts engaged and heads down in the grit of the work, a church might just look up and find its sanctuary full again without any focus on that sort of thing at all!

If. . .if, the church will surrender itself to the mission Jesus pursued.
