This is such a sad comment: "I will do everything in my power as a private citizen to see that he is defeated."
I don't agree with everything Obama does. I didn't agree with everything Bush did (including getting caught in his own jams, like the lies about WMD and such that led us to war).
But I could not imagine dedicating "everything in my power" to simply tear down a leader who is trying to develop a better way to pay for healthcare.
When did preventing taxes become more important than saving lives?
What don't you understand about the SC engaging in massive fraud?
Justice Roberts could not pass the bill under the commerce clause so he decided to call it a tax, contrary to the way it was presented. In other words, he rewrote it. That is outside the bounds of law.
You are, by definition, wrong. The Supreme Court's role is to decide what's constitutional. They have said this law is. Therefore, it is.
Roberts wasn't looking to "pass" the bill. He was trying to decide if Congress had the power to pass it. He determined it does.
All this criticism might seem more legitimate if it was not those who normally agree with Roberts suddenly deciding he's a terrible jurist. If he had agreed with you, all would be well. He didn't, so now he's vilified. But he's the same Judge you agree with 90% of the time. He just had the guts to do what he thought was right.
It's not about saving lives. It's about refusing to work, screwin' for reputation's sake, taking the edge off with a "44" (3 X/day), spray painting garage doors, stealing sudafed, refusing to even try in school, thuggin', reporting late to work (then not working), pretending to be an NBA superstar at the rec center and not taking responsibility for anything else in life, stealing basketball shoes, not feeding the kids so the school has to, going to a church when you're poor and the pastor makes 100 g's, refusing to discipline children (don't really know where they are at the moment), placing more faith in a .0006% chance of making in professional sports than in a 99.2% chance you'll stay out of poverty and live a long life if you get a "B" average in school, voting for a democrat without knowing his name, voting for the same democrat even if he has bribe $ in his freezer, joining a union and complaining because you have to go to work, blaming rich people for everything bad that ever happened to you, practicing your menacing look in the mirror and then practicing your I'm-so-pretty smile in the mirror, claiming US history is not "our history," demanding another holiday, vandalizing, twist-moralizing, self-aggrandizing, stylizing, and then, of course, politicizing EVERYTHING.
Justice Roberts found the law unconstitutional. However, he wanted to save it so he rewrote it as a tax. The law was not written as a tax, in fact for two years it was said by Obama many times that it was not a tax.
Believe me, you better hold on to your wallet. The court has just given Congress unlimited power.
No matter how many times you say it, or even how you say it, it doesn't have an impact. Conservatives are no longer afraid of the word. You've overused it. The use of it merely indicates you are out of ideas. The list of foolish and detrimental behavior listed above is inexcusable. Only liberal political operatives appreciate this behavior because it is useful to help them meet their socialist agenda.
No reason for alarm. When it comes to taxing, Congress's authority was already virtually unlimited. But as the current Congress makes clear, they rarely use it of late.
"Funny, didn't know they had that power" What power is that? To determine if a law is constitutional? They've had that power since 1803.
You made a list of negative stereotypes clearly targeted at minorities in general or African Americans in particular. Yes, I'll say it again. RACIST. It's very sad it doesn't bother you. But it never bother the Klan either. They wore it proudly. So I should not be surprised you do, too.
Can you think of any other words that might keep a conservative at bay?
Here. Let me help.
Let's agree to write a healthcare policy that expects people who can work to work and earn their own health insurance, supports those who really can't, and makes life miserable for those who attempt to game the policy.
I like those words. Instead you support a policy that simply takes $$$ through taxation from working people and supports those who don't/won't.
I simply detailed the kind of behavior the tax scheme will reward.
I have no problems with Roberts. I don't like his conclusion, but I respect him as a competent jurist which is more than Obama did when, as a junior Senator, did not vote to confirm him. My problem is that the Dems went out of their way to say in every manner possible that this tax was not a tax and yet in the end we find out that is exactly what it was. I am the one who said that I would do every thing in my power to work for Obama's defeat. I have never even put a political yard sign up, but I will this year. I have never contributed a nickel to a political campaign. I will this year. Why? Anger? Not anger, but fear for the world that my grandchildren will be raised in unless this man is stopped. I am not filled with hate. I am filled with dismay at the total direction of our country. Call me whatever name you wish. I don't care. I know that in my heart that I am a good and decent person and that is all that matters.
It is beyond the imagination of liberals to consider many conservatives base their opinions on facts and a coherent philosophy - many times a philosophy informed by biblical principles and a defined theology.
I believe this false belief about conservatives is a product of two sources - university faculty determined to rid students of arcane beliefs and media producers who influence social norms through lyrics, scripts, and casting. Both streams of liberal activism lead to one conclusion - conservatives are stupid, greedy, and given to violence.
There is really no productive way to work with/negotiate someone who believes you are stupid, greedy, and/or given to violence. Capitulation, horse-trading, and avoidance don't work.
The key is to face reality and accept that many people generally do want to get more out of life than they put into it. That understood, conservatives will lose some battles. But the broader picture is worth holding onto. I think Justice Roberts saw the less obvious parts of the case to me more valuable than the mandate to purchase health insurance. He clarified the issue by gutting the presumptive use of the commerce clause to compel not just purchase of health insurance but anything at all.
Now conservatives have a strong foundation for attacking Obamacare. It is pure myth to believe the healthcare law was simple enough for a "decision" to bring resolution and clarity. This matter is so complex I wouldn't be surprised if it takes 25 years or more to implement a program that reflects the values of such a diverse society.
Thank you for your thoughtful, civil posts. I consider myself a centrist. It is so rare to find either political pole simply state their position without vilifying the other side. And there is nothing wrong with wanting to defeat Obama if you simply do not agree with his policies. It's the vitriol from whatever source that is so ugly. (See Anon 12:55)
By the way, Anon 12:55 - you conflate unfounded claims of racism with well founded claims of racism, and talk as though no one should care about actually being racist, as opposed to being called racist when one is not. But you really did cross that line.
1255 & 434 are the same writer. Shocking, if you are a liberal. But conservatives are human, hence emotional as well as logical. When writing 1255 I consider how Al Sharpton would make the point. Then in434 I assumed the personna most comfortable to me -one who parlayed a lower class upbringing into a sound career through focused, incremental effort. Lewis might be interpreted by some to suggest that the majority of success is due to circumstances outside the individual's control. While it is true we dont build the roads we drive on, we are responsib le for for our thouths, attitudes and expectations. After that foundation is established, patience, hopefulness, reading and the ompleting our math homework, restraining our expressive and hormonal urges, and seeking advice from experienced travelers is nearly automatic. Why would anyone teach their message hildren otherwise? Why would Lewis make a point of panning individual effort?
With respect, "emotional" does not give one license to be rude and disrespectful. Venom is our biggest problem right now, and forms no part of any solutions.
Can't wait until we react in November!
ReplyDeleteThis will cause even more people to find themselves without insurance.
I understand this is the biggest tax hike in history but it won't immediately be known until after the election. It's definately unconstitutional.
ReplyDeleteThat must be a new one, taxing someone for something they don't do.

ReplyDeleteBut Obama said many times it wasn't a tax:)
Caught in a lie. No way to get around it. I will do everything in my power as a private citizen to see that he is defeated.
ReplyDeleteI heard a funny comment. It's like a student handing in a failing term paper and the teacher re-writing it.

Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton were among many Democrats who voted to invade Iraq in 2002.
