Character. . .Benefit to Community

I often find great wisdom and motivating power in simple statements.

While on vacation, I discovered the following words stenciled on a Spokane coffee shop wall. I jotted them down for safekeeping.

"The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good."

Samuel Johnson

One of my favorite quotes - though I got my exposure to it in a more mundane way - Fronklin Covey Day Planners, lol!

It makes me think about the scripture where God talks about it is what we do in secret, versus public, that matters to Him.

Contrast, for example, the selfless act of Warren Buffet giving his wealth to the Gates Foundation -- not even a charit with his name on it! -- to the actions of others.

For example, Wal-mart's Walton family. They make up around half of the country's top ten wealthiest people. What do they do?

Campaign for the removal of the estate tax.
