Central Dallas Ministries is excited to announce details about our annual "A Night to Remember" celebration at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center here in the Downtown Dallas Arts Distrcit!
This year on Monday, October 30, we proudly welcome award winning country and bluegrass recording star Vince Gill!
"A Night to Remember 2006" promises to be our most successful event to date.
The annual community gathering seeks to raise funds to help underwrite the important human and community development work of Central Dallas Ministries.
Vince Gill and his 22-piece orchestra will fill the Meyerson Center with sound and life!
Plan now to join us for this special night that will include the announcement of the recipient of the 2006 Hazel E. Brown Community Builder Award. The special tribute, named in honor of "Miss Hazel"--the long-time volunteer and community leader, is awarded annually to an individual, couple or group that best exemplifies the mission and work of CDM in the life of the city.

Here is an interesting story. For the past four years we have had in order of appearance Bill Cosby (practiced his now infamous speech on our audience that evening!), B. B. King, Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight. After last year's performance, an African American team member here at CDM approached me, put his arm around my shoulder and said, "Brother Larry, you need to get a white dude next year! We're needing some diversity in this event."
So, Vince Gill. Wish you could come. He will have released a boxed set of all of his hits about 2 weeks before our event. Should be a great evening.

At the Garfield Avenue Blues, Jazz, Gospel and Arts festival here in Milwaukee they purposefully include some "white" folks for the same reason. Radio Disney was also on the scene this year . . . with some white rappers. It was BAD let me tell you. But there was an old guy blue grass band (white folk) that were amazing.

Just to clarify, the boxed set that Vince is releasing in October is all new material, not old hits.

My mistake! I will correct this. Can you explain your source on this? I was under the impression that it was a set of his work to date. I'd like to edit the post, but need a bit more documentation--not that I doubt you. . .can you help me??? It sounds like you may work for Vince. Again, thanks and add some more detail for me if you can.
No I don't work for Vince, not that I wouldn't like to, lol ! I'm a member of his fan club, plus Vince has sung some of the songs on the Opry, one of which is a duet with Diana Krall called "Faint of Heart". Also the first single to be released off the boxed set is currently receiving airplay and is called "The Reason Why".

Articles on the box set, "These Days" have appeared in Billboard, country music websites, and country radio websites. It's very easy to confirm that it is a 4 cd set of 43 new songs.
