Almost 15% of our residents are hungry and food insecure. Texas experiences the highest food insecurity rate among children in the nation.
Many of the 3 million children who participate in the free lunch program in our public schools go without a meal on the weekends and when school is closed during the summer and on holidays and school breaks.

Now what is their/your definition of hunger? Also what is "food insecure"
Kids don't eat school lunches. They play with the jello, finish half a corn dog and throw all the green beans away.
I don't understand the comment "skillfull job in editing." The actual percentage (16.3%) is higher, not lower. Do you mean that Texas has ONLY the SECOND highest rate of food insecurtity? Not much of a difference if you ask me.

chand: Don't get your comment either. Are you suggesting school lunch programs for children in poverty are a bad idea because some kids don't finish their meals every day?
