Just because you income is under the poverty line does not mean you are poor. My parents income was under the so called poverty line but they lived well. They grew almost everything they ate. Their house was very adequate and did not cost a fortune. The good life was all around them---fields, lakes, trees, hunting ground and cows grazing in the pasture.
The poverty level is always a favorite with the lefties, especially when they don't create any jobs. If you don't want to talk about jobs - raise the wage threshold amount for the poverty level, allow more illegals in, and there you go - a pleasant diversion from the real issues.
It is a reflection on the state of our politics that, if Bush were President, I feel sure he would get blamed for these numbers. But Obama gets the blame instead. Fair? Unfair? Doesn't matter. It's all about finger pointing and who can talk the loudest.
Anon 9:16 - what the ___ have you been drinking?
Anon 10:47 - that sounds great, and I don't doubt it's true, but it's not the reality for the urban (and vast majority of the) poor.

111 million dollars created 55 jobs. Your tax money at work. Two million per job. Vote Obama.
